A UNIFORM FOR A MIGRANT
Dimension: 101 x 130 cm • 39.3 x 51.1 inches$3 780.00
Salvador Tomnyu is completely self-taught. During an artist residency in Casablanca, he discovered the style that would enable him to express his anxieties. His works follow in the pure tradition of free figuration, featuring boxers and hybrid creatures that populate the artist’s imagination and anxieties, particularly in the face of the migratory and humanitarian crisis facing the African continent.
“SYMBOLE DE FRONTIERE” is created by Salvador Tomnyuy
Description
In this artwork Cameroonian artist Salvador Tomnyuy favors a more expressive line and more aggressive color contrasts. Wishing to pay homage to the many anonymous bodies that have disappeared in the Mediterranean, the artist lends his graphic universe a fantastic touch, not hesitating to give form to emaciated, skeletal creatures, with pitying or accusing looks. If the silence surrounding these disappearances sometimes seems deafening, the promise of color eventually wins out, in a salvific hand-to-hand encounter with paint.
