Description
This is one of a series of 3 paintings created for an exhibition in Saint-Tropez. The title is “The Explorers”.
This work evokes the technical prowess and ingenuity of ancient Africans in navigation. As early as 3,000 BC, the Egyptians were able to maneuver ships of various sizes.
Later in history, during the Mali empire, Aboubakari 2 also led several maritime expeditions. As a result, he was able to reach America some one hundred years before Christopher Columbus.
The composition of the painting is inspired by an existing fresco from the tomb of Sennefer in the area of the nobles’ tombs at Gournah.
